Percale is the simplest weave there is - one thread over, one under - and at 200 threads to the inch it comes out matte, cool and slightly crisp. It is the sheet for people who kick the duvet off at 3 a.m. The wall is 35 cm with elastic sewn round the whole hem rather than just the corners, so it stays put on a mattress between 18 and 30 cm.
The drawback is creasing: percale comes out of the dryer looking slept in, and it stays that way unless you iron it or let the weight of a body press it flat overnight.
